Balloon Message

This fun game is an excellent choice for kids birthday party games. It’s a fun and creative way to give the birthday kid a heartfelt and/or humorous message all while having gaming fun. This game is a kids birthday party games top pick!

What You’ll Need:

balloons, string, paper, marker, scissors, optional printout

How to Play:

Step 1: Think of a heartfelt or humorous message for the birthday kid (keep it fairly short) OR use the message from the optional printout. The message could be something like: “It’s your birthday but you are our gift.” or “Getting older isn’t so bad – for now.” Using a sheet of paper (colored paper is a good choice) or computer, create a square for each letter that is in your message (punctuation and symbols should be in individuals squares as well). Place the letter from each word of your message inside the squares. Make 2 copies of each paper containing the squares to create 2 sets of game pieces for at least 2 teams (make more copies according to the number of teams you want to create).

Step 2: Focusing on the 1st copy. Cut out the squares for the first word of your message, fold them, then place them into a single balloon. Blow up the balloon (helium works best) then tie it off using string. Cut out the squares for the second word of your message and repeat the process until there is 1 balloon for each word of your message. Tie all the balloons that complete your message together. Repeat this process with the second copy of your message and you should have at least 2 balloon bundles for 2 teams.

Step 3: Create 2 teams of 2 or more and position them a good distance from each other (approx. 10 ft). Give each team a balloon bundle. At the “go” signal, teams must pop 1 balloon at a time, gather the letters that fall from the balloon and try to unscramble them into the correct word. Once they’ve correctly formed the word they may then pop the next balloon from their bundle and unscramble that word.

Step 4: When all the words are unscrambled, teams must then put the words together to figure out the birthday message then quickly declare it to the birthday boy or girl. The first team to declare the correct message wins Balloon Message! This is a fun choice for your kids birthday party games.

Password Pop

This fun game is a great pick for kids birthday party games. The game is fairly similar to Balloon Message but has a slight twist. Take children’s birthday party games to new heights with this wonderful party game for children.

What You’ll Need: balloons, string, paper, marker, scissors, optional printout (click here to print pdf.)

How to Play:

Step 1: Think of a birthday related word or word that describes the birthday kid – this is the password (the words could be something like confetti, present, persistent, eccentric, etc.). OR, you may use the words provided on the printout. Using a sheet of paper, create a vertical line of squares down the center and place a letter from the password into each square. Using the letters from the password, think of a few more birthday related or descriptive words and write them horizontally so that 1 letter from the password is included in each word (may be included at the beginning, middle or end).

Step 2: Make the letters of the password distinctive by making them bold, adding color to the letter or adding color to the square. All the letters of the password should have the same distinction. Create squares around the other letters of the words that have been added and color them as desired.

Step 3: Make 2 copies of each paper containing the squares to create 2 sets of game pieces for at least 2 teams (make more copies according to the number of teams you want to create). Focusing on the 1st copy, cut out the squares for the first word, fold them, then place them into a single balloon. Blow up the balloon (helium works best) then tie it off using string. Cut out the squares for the second word and repeat the process until there is 1 balloon for each word. Tie together all the balloons that complete the list of words created. Repeat this process with the second copy of words and you should have at least 2 balloon bundles for 2 teams.

Step 4: Create 2 teams of 2 or more and position them a good distance from each other (approx. 10 ft). Give each team a balloon bundle. At the “go” signal, teams must quickly pop 1 balloon at a time, gather the letters, and try to unscramble them into the correct word. Once they’ve correctly formed the word they may then pop the next balloon from their bundle and unscramble that word. Teams will be awarded 5 points for each word unscrambled correctly.

Step 5: Once a team has popped all their balloons and completed unscrambling all their words correctly, they must then complete a final unscramble by taking the password letters (which are distinctively marked/colored) of each word and try to form the password. When a team successfully unscrambles the password they are awarded 10 but their win depends on the birthday kids ability to understand their password clues.

Step 6: The first team to unscramble the password will give clues and gestures to the birthday kid to try and get he or she to say the password which will allow them to win and earn them a final 20 points. If the first team to reach this final stage of the game doesn’t get the birthday kid to say the password before the next team unscrambles their password and comes along; then both teams must take turns giving their clues and gestures to the birthday kid. The first team to get the birthday kid to say the password OR the team with the most points wins Password Pop!

This is a great gaming challenge for your kids birthday party games. Note: the person to guess the password doesn’t have to be the birthday kid should he or she prefer to be a part of a team.
