Tired of just sitting inside your home when you can go outdoors and play? If you and your family are looking for outdoor game ideas to play in your backyard or anywhere outside your home, we have just the thing for you. Here are 10 of the best outdoor games both the kids and adults can enjoy.
1. Backyard Obstacle Course
Enjoy crawling through and jumping over hurdles together with your whole family. Set up an obstacle course right in your backyard. You can build the course using the supplies you already have or purchase an obstacle set. Also, you can host competitions and relay races; these make for fun outdoor party games.
This classic game dates back for centuries. The whole family can join in when playing this game. To play, you’ll need a set of bocce balls and enough players to form two teams. Have each team choose a bocce ball color. When the teams are done choosing, the first player must toss the small ball or the “pallino” and then throws a bocce ball as close as possible to the pallino. The next to toss a bocce ball is a player from the opposing team. Their ball must be closer to the pallino. If they succeeded, the ball would be deemed “inside,” and the other team has to toss their bocce balls until one of them gets “inside.” The frame is considered over once all the balls are thrown. The team with the closest ball will be awarded a point for each bocce ball thrown inside.
3. Capture the Flag
Capture the flag is a classic outdoor game that can be played by kids and adults. Playing this game requires 6 or more players and two flags(can be a piece of fabric) in different colors. To start, divide your area into two courts, and the players must be split into two teams. Have each team place their designated flags right at the back of their courts. The game’s objective is for the players to run into their opponents’ court and steal the flag. If a player gets tagged, that means they’re out of the game. The team to successfully capture the flag wins the game.
4. Water Balloon Dodgeball
Experiencing a sweltering day? This game is perfect for you! The goal of this game is to try hitting the opposing players with balloons full of water. It’s a great way to freshen up and also have fun during a sunny day.
You can also play a game of toss by using the water-filled balloons and see who can throw the balloons for the longest time without popping them.
5. Kick the Can
Gather around four players and assign someone to be the “it.” The “it” must kick an empty can while the rest of the players go in hiding. After counting to 100, the “it” has to set the kicked can upright and yell, “Ready or not, here I come,” and then seek the other players. Once the “it” finds someone, they have to yell the player’s name loudly, and then both of them must race to the can and try kicking it. If the hider successfully knocks down the can, the game ends, but if the “it” succeeds, then the hider should remain near the can while the rest of the players continue playing. Those captivated can be freed if the can is kicked by their teammates without getting spotted. The game ends once the “it” manages to capture everyone.
6. Lawn Bowling
It’s time to take out the bowling pins you purchased and place them on your lawn. Kids and adults can take turns in knocking down the pins. If you don’t have bowling pins, you can make them yourself. All you need are soda bottles to be filled with sand. You can also use a tennis ball or beach ball to knock the DIY pins down.
Frisbee is an enjoyable game for all ages. Throw a frisbee around in your backyard or a park. You can even play it together with your dog.
8. DIY Lawn Matching Game
Find some spare square cork tails, divide them into pairs, and spray on some colorful images (paint identical images for each pair). You can then use these tiles to play a giant matching game.
9. DIY Bean Bag Toss
The DIY Bean Bag Toss is easy to create. All you need are numbered saucers and bean bags. Place each saucer a distance apart (as far as you want). The goal is to toss the bean bags and land them in the saucers to gather the highest points.
10. Frozen T-Shirt Game
This game is excellent for the summer heat. Cool off with this game by soaking your shirts in water and sticking them inside the freezer. After a day, distribute a frozen shirt to each player. The first player to defrost their shirt and wear it wins the game.
