Guide to Playing BS Card Game

B.S. is an incredibly thrilling fun game, which is famous by many names, such as I Doubt It, Cheat, Bologna Sandwich, Bible Study, and Bullshit. The game is best played with 3 or more players, and the goal is to be the first person to get rid of all your cards. While it may seem simple, the activity would require you to perform a lot of bluffing and do as good as knowing when other participants are bluffing. Sure enough, it’s an exhilarating way to pass the time and kill boredom in the comfort of your home!

How To Play

Game Requirements

  • 3 or more players
  • A standard 52-card deck of cards

Objectives of the Game

The initial thing to do is remove all the Jokers from the deck of cards if you are playing the standard variation. Once they have taken out, shuffle the cards as many times you want until you feel it’s thoroughly mixed up. After that, you can now begin distributing the cards to the participants until nothing’s left.

Then, the next thing you need to do is decide who should place the card first. Typically, the person holding the ace of spades goes first, places the card, and other aces in the center. However, depending on your group, you can decide on different variations, such as the youngest starting the game and rotates counter-clockwise, or the tallest player beginning the gameplay clockwise.

Once the first person to play has been decided, it’s time to start the fun! The group will take turns discarding the cards. The first person places the aces, the next individual will release all the two’s, and the third person will drop all the three’s, and so on.

However, since the cards are placed down in the center, you may actually ‘cheat’ to get rid of your cards faster. For instance, it’s your turn to discard the four’s. However, you don’t have one. You can easily discard other cards you have in hand.

But, be mindful of your actions. If a person thinks you are discarding cards that are not equivalent to the rank you are supposed to place down, they can challenge you by yelling ‘Bullshit!’, ‘I Doubt It!’, or ‘Cheat.’

Your last cards will be exposed, and two results may happen:

1) If what you’ve discarded matches the rank that was called, then the challenger loses and must take the entire discard pile, giving him a lot of new cards to dispose of.

2) However, if the challenger is right that you’re only bluffing around, say hello to an entire discard pile in your hands that you need to discard to win.

Once the challenge has been solved, the game resumes, and the next player calls and drops the next rank, and followed by the succeeding members.

The first individual to get rid of all his cards is declared as the winner! Be careful if you are playing your last few cards, if you lose on a challenge, you take the entire discard pile, and the gameplay goes on!

Variations

Same with other games, there are a lot of variations in the rules you can apply to make things more exciting.

For instance, if there are a lot of participants, you can add two or more decks of cards and shuffle them all together. For a change, you can also begin downward, starting with A, K, Q, J, and so on.

Others, on the other hand, permit cards of the same rank to be played after a challenge, while most move on to the next higher rank.

If you are more experienced, adding the Jokers can make the game more thrilling. The Joker accounts for any number or card, which can be very handy in bluffing in the right situations. Rewards for the winners may also bring out the competitive juice within the participants, forcing them to sharpen their bluffing and bluff-determining skills!

Key Tips

Key Tips

  • Protect your cards from the sight of other players at all costs.
  • Wearing sunglasses can do wonders as other participants won’t see your eye. In turn, look at their eyes instead. Eyes can quickly show if someone is lying!
  • Maintain a low profile. If others see that you’re about to clear out your cards, they tend to call more BS. Strive to remain unnoticed and win the game without them even knowing.
